Sponsored by University of Wales
Founded by Royal Charter in 1893, the University of Wales is the degree-awarding body for the vast majority of higher education students in Wales, as well as for many at other higher education institutions in the United Kingdom and overseas. It also provides services to the higher education sector in Wales, such as the Gregynog study and conference centre and the University of Wales Press, and runs a world class research centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies. The University of Wales is therefore a major national institution that is committed to fulfilling the educational and economic needs of Wales and to supporting its linguistic, cultural, and national heritage.
As part of this role, it is currently developing a major project, in partnership with the academic and business community, to create a new multimillion pound Global Academy that will help to enhance the research capability of businesses and boost their capacity to develop new market-led processes, products, technologies and services.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Marc Clement, the Global Academy should contribute significantly to the development of innovation potential amongst Welsh businesses, helping to promote flourishing competition within the Welsh economy. "One of the driving forces behind the University of Wales and its new Global Academy is its role in helping to develop innovation both within and between businesses across Wales. With the Fast Growth 50 project consistently highlighting the best of Welsh innovation and entrepreneurship, the University of Wales, through its Global Academy, is looking forward to working with firms across the business sector to assist them in turning new ideas into commercial applications."
